Tour Itinerary
DAY 01: MANALI TO KAZA VIA ATAL TUNNEL AND KUNZUM PASS
Tour starts at early morning from Manali to Kaza. You drive via Atal Tunnel and Kunzum Pass.
This high-octane journey from Manali to Kaza is a cinematic transition from the lush, pine-covered slopes of the Kullu Valley to the stark, lunar landscapes of the Trans-Himalayas. After a swift transit through the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel, the paved roads give way to the raw, rugged trails of the Lahaul Valley and the legendary water crossings of Chhatru and Batal. The adventure peaks at the mighty Kunzum Pass (14,931 ft), where you’ll pay respects at the hilltop temple before descending into the vast, sun-drenched plains of Spiti. It is a thrilling, 10-hour odyssey of off-roading, glacial views and soaring altitudes that serves as the ultimate gateway to the “Middle Land.”
Overnight stay at the hotel in Kaza.
DAY 02: KAZA TO MUDH VILLAGE (PIN VALLEY) TO TABO
The journey from Kaza to Mudh Village—the heart of the Pin Valley National Park—offers a striking shift into a landscape of violet-hued mountains and unique wildlife. This leg of the tour takes you through the lush, alpine scenery of Pin Valley, where the emerald-green fields of Mudh stand in vivid contrast to the surrounding chocolate-colored cliffs. After exploring the “Land of the Snow Leopard,” the route leads back toward the Spiti River to reach the ancient town of Tabo. Home to the “Ajanta of the Himalayas,” the 1000-year-old Tabo Monastery provides a serene, spiritual conclusion to a day filled with dramatic geological wonders and raw Himalayan beauty.
Overnight stay at the hotel/homestays in Tabo.
DAY 03: TABO TO DHANKAR TO HIKKIM, KOMIC AND LANGZA VILLAGE
After breakfast, departure for Dhankar.
This stretch of the journey is a deep dive into the high-altitude wonders and spiritual heritage of “Middle Land.” Starting from the ancient murals of Tabo, you’ll ascend to Dhankar, where the 1,000-year-old monastery clings precariously to jagged cliffside “fingers” overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers. The adventure then climbs even higher to the iconic trio of high-altitude villages- Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office; Komik, one of the highest inhabited villages on Earth; and Langza, the “Fossil Village” guarded by a giant, golden Buddha statue. It is a day defined by soaring altitudes, prehistoric treasures and some of the most breathtaking panoramic vistas in the entire Spiti Valley.
Return back to Kaza. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kaza.
DAY 04: KAZA TO KEY MONASTERY, KIBBER VILLAGE AND PROCEED TO CHANDRATAL LAKE
After breakfast, drive towards the Key Monastery.
This leg of the journey captures the quintessential spirit of Spiti, starting with the iconic Key Monastery, a majestic “fortress” of faith perched atop a conical hill. After exploring its ancient corridors, you’ll head to the scenic Kibber Village, once the highest inhabited village in the world and a sanctuary for the elusive snow leopard. The day reaches its dramatic crescendo as you cross the high-altitude Kunzum Pass to reach the mesmerizing Chandratal Lake, also known as the “Moon Lake.” Camping near its turquoise waters under a blanket of a billion stars, you’ll experience the raw, ethereal beauty of the Himalayas in its purest form, making this the crowning jewel of your Spiti expedition.
